MSCA Doctoral Networks 2026: funding now open
The 2026 MSCA Doctoral Networks call is now open for organisations looking to build international doctoral training partnerships. UK universities, research organisations, businesses, SMEs and other partners can take part as part of a consortium with organisations in Europe and internationally. Projects should address a clear research or innovation need and give doctoral candidates experience across academic and non-academic settings. Funded projects must advertise doctoral vacancies widely, including on the EURAXESS portal. Industrial and Joint Doctorates are especially encouraged. The deadline is 24 November 2026, with results expected in April 2027. The indicative budget is €593.034 million.

Horizon Europe funding share rises for UK organisations
New statistics from the UK Government show UK participation in Horizon Europe recovering after Brexit. In 2024, the UK secured 9.3% of Horizon Europe funding, its strongest result for five years. The UK performed particularly well in Pillar 1, which includes the European Research Council and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, securing 14.3% of available funding in this part of the programme.
There were also encouraging signs in Pillar 2, which supports collaborative research and innovation projects, where the UK secured 6.2% of funding in 2024. For UK organisations, the results make a strong case for looking at Horizon Europe opportunities, whether through collaborative research, MSCA schemes or partnerships with European organisations. Innovation and commercialisation activity remains an area for growth, but the latest data shows the UK is gaining momentum across the programme.
