UK set to rejoin Erasmus+ from 2027

The UK has reached an agreement in principle to associate with the Erasmus+ programme from 2027, marking a potential return to the European Union’s flagship programme for education, training, youth and sport. The announcement, published in official UK government guidance, signals renewed opportunities for international collaboration across higher education, research-related training and academic development.

Erasmus+ supports mobility and cooperation activities, enabling participants to study, train, teach, or gain professional experience abroad. For universities, research institutions and sector bodies, the programme also facilitates partnerships and collaborative projects with organisations across Europe and beyond. Rejoining the programme would allow UK-based institutions to once again participate in these activities on a multilateral footing with European partners.

The UK government has confirmed that the association is subject to final agreement and the completion of domestic processes. Further details, including funding arrangements, eligibility criteria and the establishment of a UK national agency, will be confirmed ahead of the first funding round. Institutions and individuals will apply through Erasmus+ calls once the association is finalised. Further information is available through the official guidance published on GOV.UK.
