Black Researcher Consortium launches new website

We’re delighted to share several exciting developments from the Black Researcher Consortium (BRC), including the launch of its new website, the opening of BRC membership, and the announcement of the inaugural Black Research Connections Conference. These milestones represent significant progress in the Consortium’s mission to transform the research ecosystem and create greater opportunities for Black researchers.

RSVP International Research Supervision Conference 2027
Best for: supervisors, researcher developers, doctoral school leaders, policymakers
Bookings and the call for contributions are now open for the inaugural RSVP International Research Supervision Conference 2027, taking place in York from 17–19 March 2027. The conference will explore how research supervision can be transformed through innovation in pedagogy, policy and practice. Abstract submissions close on Wednesday 30 September 2026.

REF 2029 sector survey on final policy developments

The REF team has launched a short sector survey to gather feedback on a number of policy areas ahead of the publication of final REF 2029 guidance later this year. The survey will remain open until Friday 4 September 2026, and the exercise will seek sector feedback on proposals relating to outputs, equality-related unit reductions and arrangements for Strategy, People and Research Environment (SPRE).

New HEPI report highlights doctoral careers support

A new HEPI report, More than Academia: Expanding Career Support for Doctoral Researchers, examines how universities can better support doctoral researchers to pursue careers both within and beyond academia. The report highlights growing career diversity among PhD graduates and the importance of dedicated careers support, professional development opportunities and better tracking of doctoral career outcomes.
